ABOUT US

“OVO is a self funding poverty alleviation initiative that approaches business in a whole new way in order to target unemployment and inequality”. Despite it sounding too good to be true, it is in fact simpler than one might think and this is how we intend achieving our mission. We have set up a fully functioning for profit company that produces top quality products and services although the company itself does not take the profits. Instead we have structured the company in such a way that the workers receive 50% of the profits and the company uses the other 50% to fund new projects that will then employ more workers who in turn receive 50% of those profits. In this way there is always funding available for new projects allowing us to employ more and more people at 50% profit share.

In so doing, not only do the workers benefit from the fruits of their labour directly, as the harder they work the more they earn, but are also helping to fund new projects, creating employment for more South Africans who so desperately need it. This system gives the workers a sense of ownership and pride in their work reducing the need for constant supervision as they tend to police themselves and work more coherently as a team for the betterment of the company. All we need is the support of our fellow South Africans who will benefit from a top quality product at a lower price by purchasing our products and insisting that the retailers carry our brand. In this way we will be able to take the profits from the big multinationals who send it off shore and instead plough it back into our very own economy for the benefit of all South Africans.

OUR PROJECTS

Our pilot project is a top quality dishwashing liquid that we aim to distribute through the major retail chains, this will give us a national footprint and introduce our brand to South Africa. Once the dishwashing liquid has proven that our name is synonymous with top quality we will extend our product offering to include ‘our very own’ range of frozen vegetables and washed herbs. This boost in revenue will allow us to fund ‘our very own’ bottle blowing plant. By blowing our own bottles our dishwashing liquid input costs can be reduced by at least 8%, making us even more competitive in the market.

Our plan is to keep investing in new businesses until we have a national footprint and then expand into other SADC countries which will be made possible by ‘our very own’ logistics company. We will concentrate on businesses with relatively low start up costs and by using labour intensive manual systems for production we can create more employnment opportunities while saving the inhibitively expensive capital expenditure required for automation.

FUTURE INITIATIVES

Once we have grown the brand and employ enough people we can then automate processes in order to increase efficiencies but because the workers are in fact partners in the business, they will not be affected by job losses and will just earn more and work less. In this way A.I. and automation can be embraced not feared.

Initial start-ups will include manufacturing ‘our very own’ school clothing and workwear such as overalls in an attempt to revive our textile industry. We also intend to invest heavily in the hemp industry to produce ‘our very own’ CBD oils which will allow us to start weaving ‘our very own’ hemp fabric for use in our textile industry at a low cost as it is a by-product of the CBD oil. Furthermore we will begin a fastfood outlet in every industrial area to provide our working men and women with delicious, nutritious and most importantly, affordable meals at their places of work. This would require bread and other baked goods which will lead us to opening ‘our very own’ bakeries eventually supplying many South Africans with their daily bread at a significantly lower price than the big conglomerates.

Once we have grown the brand and employ enough people we can then automate processes in order to increase efficiencies but because the workers are in fact partners in the business, they will not be affected by job losses and will just earn more and work less. In this way A.I. and automation can be embraced not feared.

INNOVATION

The most exciting project however, will be OVO Engineering. We plan to purchase a fully equipped engineering workshop that will research and develop energy efficient alternatives to electricity production. We already have designs for a cheap and simple wave powered electric generator that will be exponentially cheaper and more efficient than both wind and solar. Since a wave is so much more powerful than a gust of wind and the fact that they are always in motion makes it the perfect candidate for a reliable source of alternative energy. Our generators are not only cheaper to build and maintain, but they also have less of an impact on the environment and are visually less obtrusive. We will also run an internship programme aimed at getting more young women involved in the industry with the end goal of producing some of the most competent engineers and artisans in the country.
